PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Dr. Adam Fiedler
adam.fiedler@marquette.edu
Office: TW 433
Phone: (414) 288-7191
Professor Fiedler received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry under the direction of Thomas Brunold at the University at Wisconsin-Madison in 2006. After graduating from Madison, he began an NIH postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Prof. Larry Que, Jr. at the University of Minnesota, where synthesized and characterized high-valent iron complexes with relevance to oxygen activation in biological systems. He joined the faculty at Marquette University in August 2009. Professor Fiedler’s research interests are in the area of synthetic bioinorganic chemistry, spectroscopy, and computational methods. Dr. Fiedler has received external research funding from the NSF and NIH, and currently serves as chairperson of the Chemistry Department.
CURRENT GROUP MEMBERS

Patrick Sheridan
4th year graduate student
patrick.e.sheridan@marquette.edu
Patrick was born in Memphis, TN and received his B.S. in chemistry from Mississippi State University in 2021. In the fall of the same year, he moved to Milwaukee and began as a graduate student at Marquette, where he joined the Fiedler group. His current research interests are in secondary sphere interactions in enzyme model complexes and X-ray crystallography. Outside the lab, Patrick enjoys tabletop gaming and playing his guitar.

Delanie Huntoon
3rd year graduate student
delanie.huntoon@marquette.edu
Delanie is originally from Janesville, WI. In 2022 she received a B.S in Chemistry and two minors (French and Biology) from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Shortly after she came to Marquette University where she joined the Fiedler lab. Her current research involves magnetic spectroscopy (EPR/MCD) and computational studies of nitrile hydratases. Her interests include Warhammer 40,000 and baking.

Aneesha Abraham
2nd year graduate student
aneesha.abraham@marquette.edu
Aneesha was born in Kerala, India. She completed her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from CMS College, and her master’s from Madras Christian College, both in India. She started her graduate program at Marquette University in 2023 and joined Dr. Fiedler’s lab the same year. Currently, she is working on metal complexes that mimic the active site of cysteine dioxygenases. Her interests include music and exploring new places and food.

Ellie Balensiefen
4th year undergraduate student
ellie.balensiefen@marquette.edu
Ellie is an undergraduate student majoring in chemistry. She plans to graduate in May 2025 and pursue a Ph.D. Ellie has been involved in tutoring and the band program at Marquette, and enjoys traveling with the band for March Madness games.
